The Computerfone is a standalone,
independently operating device that
can be used to monitor the operation
or operating state of your computer
or communications network. If
your computer were to stop running for
whatever reason, the Computerfone could
restart (hardware reboot) your computer
and / or call a system administrator on
the phone to verbally give notice of
the situation. The Computerfone is a
solid-state computer peripheral that
is simple to operate and use and is
also extremely durable and reliable.
The
Computerfone communicates with your
computer over a simple RS-232 connection
and incorporates many telephone and
switching features. To implement
a Computer Operating Properly (COP)
function, you would simply program your
computer (network) to instruct (via
RS-232) the Computerfone to toggle its
switch to reboot your computer and /
or to call you on the phone in, lets
say 5 minutes. Then in 4 minutes,
your computer would send the same instructions
again to the Computerfone superseding
the previous command. In this
way, if you computer were to stop sending
these periodic messages, your computer
would be rebooted or / you would be
called and given a verbal message notifying
you of the failure of your computer's
operation. It's simple and extremely
reliable using the solid-state (no moving
parts) Computerfone and, if the Computerfone
were connected to a un-interruptible
power source (battery), then its operation
would be virtually foolproof.
The
Computerfone's contact sense option
can be connected to an alarm system
to alert you to other kinds of problems,
too.
