Host Communications
Computerfone™ connects just like an ordinary modem. The 9-pin RS-232 serial port can
use either XON/XOFF or RTS/CTS/DTR hardware handshaking at baud rates from 1200 to 57.6k.
PBX Access
Computerfone™ can be used with any PBX or Centrex service that uses a 500 or 2500 type phone and tone, pulse or
flash-hook signaling. Many applications work best with a dedicated line which bypasses the PBX.
Automatic Gain Control
Improved AGC circuits instantly adjust incoming audio from telco lines or local mic inputs to optimum levels.
Audio Output
A standard mini-jack allows monitoring or recording of audio traffic. This is great for logging, troubleshooting, or workstation input.
Phone Dialing and Call Progress
Years of fine tuning give Computerfone™ the best call handling in the business. Simple commands activate powerful macros that handle the call from off-hook to "hello". Dial tone detection, pulse or tone dialing, ring detect, special information tone (SIT) detect, answer detect, and hangup detection are handled automatically or manually, if preferred.
DTMF Detect
Information can be input to your computer via any remote tone dial telephone. The DTMF tones are decoded as ordinary
ASCII characters. With special techniques, full alphanumeric information can be received. Tone decoding can also be used for
control applications.
Incoming Calls
Your computer can answer any incoming call in any one of several modes or just note that the phone is ringing. Most areas now
offer optional Incoming Calling Line Identification signals which Computerfone™ can receive to give you an edge in security or
customer service applications. If the computer is "down", Computerfone™ can go ahead and answer the call with a message
to call back later.
Hangup Sensing
"Reverse battery" hangup signaling is detected by Computerfone™. Where this is not available, dialtone and silence detection
can notify you of a terminated call.
Quality Speech Recording
Over twelve years of refinements have produced our cleanest sound ever! Audio is recorded from the phone line or optional sources,
such as a microphone or tape recorder. The same kind of ADPCM recording used in digital phone lines allows a large amount of
recorded speech with relatively modest storage requirements. Three selectable sample rates allow a balance between capacity
and frequency response. Speech data can be recorded internally or passed, real time, to the host computer's disc. AGC keeps the
volume "just right".
Resident Speech Storage
Speech data can be stored internally in SRAM or EPROM. A total capacity of over 18 megabits of mixed RAM and ROM is possible
with Computerfone™. Maximum EPROM capacity is 16 megabits. Maximum SRAM capacity is 18 megabits. Speech requires
16-32 thousand bits per second, depending on selected rate. The standard rate is 24,000 bits per second. Chip types from 32k x 8
to 512k x 8 are easily selectable.

Non-Volatile RAM
Speech stored in RAM can be made non-volatile with the battery backup option. A lithium battery and CMOS protective circuits
shut down and save data in case of power failure.
Unlimited Speech
Speech data can be uploaded or downloaded to/from the host computer. Multiple buffers ensure smooth operation in spite of
momentary pauses for disc access and the like. If you need more you can have it with Computerfone™.
External Control and Sense Option
Any Computerfone™ not equipped with the Call I.D. option can sense a remote contact closure and control devices with a
contact closure of its own. Our customers have come up with some creative applications for this feature such as sounding or
responding to alarms and resetting failed equipment or computers.
Real-Time Dependability
Different phone systems operate with different standards. Weather and traffic conditions affect telco system performance.
Computerfone™'s unique capabilities allow it to perform under the most adverse conditions. Furthermore, the unique
"watchdog" and "deadman" timers allow the Computerfone™ to take control in the event of line or computer problems.
Computerfone™ can even be programmed to reboot a locked up computer.
SIT Decoding
SIT tones indicate the reason a call cannot be completed. With this option, Computerfone™ can tell if a number has been
changed or disconnected, or if line problems have been encountered.
Workstation Compatible
A low cost version of Computerfone™ provides an intelligent phone interface for any voice-equipped workstation, Mac or PC.
Standalone Operation
A standalone version of Computerfone™ is available for OEM applications. The internal coprocessor can be programmed to
serve as the host computer, saving space and money in many applications. The serial port can connect to a printer for reports or
data logging.
Caller I.D. (ICLID)
This option allows you to know the calling party's number before the call is answered. The possible uses for security or customer
service applications are extensive. Requires telco CLASS™ feature options and may not be available in your area.
Speech Recognition
Several companies offer outstanding speech recognition software using Computerfone™ as the interface between the computer and the telco.
Watchdog Timer Implement
a Computer
Operating Properly (COP) system
with Computerfone to keep your computer
or network going 24 / 7.
