Opal, which is an acronym for Oscar Pond Accounting
and Ledger system, is a complete and comprehensive accounting and
data base system designed specifically for the fish farming business.
Also, Opal is fully integrated with the Oscar pond monitoring and
control system and automatically retrieves information from Oscar
when it is available.
Opal’s intuitive point and click style makes
it easy to use and understand, while at the same time, Opal is uncompromising
in the quality and completeness of information provided to the farmer.
Opal is very flexible in how it may be implemented.
In the first instance, a ‘Basic’ Opal system may be used
by the farmer to keep track of fish populations and basic operating
costs. In the second instance, perhaps later, an ‘Advanced’
Opal system may be implemented to include all other accounting costs,
treatments and operational history information.
Basic Opal System
The basic Opal system provides the farmer with the
basic information he needs to run his farm along with its gross
costs. Specifically it provides:
- Fish Stocking Inventory & Cost - Fish populations
within weight brackets are maintained by stocking batch. Weight
categories are from 0.01lbs. to 2.5 and above lbs. Input data
includes fish stocking and costs, fish losses and fish harvesting
and prices.
- Feed Usage & Cost - Feed inventory and usage
data is used to calculate fish growing estimates. Input data includes
feed purchasing and fish feeding. Feeding data is entered on a
pond by pond basis and may be entered daily, weekly or on whatever
period the farmer wants. Data entry may be accomplished using
a data entry screen, by using a ‘PDA’ (PalmPilot) updated
at pond side or, in some cases, using direct input from automatic
feed dispensing equipment.
- Aerator Usage & Cost - Aerator usage &
cost automatically obtained from Oscar
Advanced Opal System
In addition to the features provided by the basic
system mentioned above, the advanced system also provides the following:
- Complete Account Information - Includes all other
expense items including capital asset purchasing and depreciation,
other one time expenses including purchasing and maintenance of
equipment & supplies assigned to one or all ponds and prorated
over time if necessary.
- Pond History & Treatment - Provide database
& reports to track operational & treatment information
on a pond by pond basis.
